About the event

Join 'From The Sticks', a trio of local poets, for an evening of poetry themed around our rural local area.

Simon Fletcher is a freelance writer/editor and poet who lives in Shropshire. Simon is the manager of Offa's Press - an independent publishing house dedicated to publishing the best in contemporary West Midlands poetry and poets. Simon has won various prizes and awards for his poetry over the years and was commended in the Michael Marks Environmental Poet of the Year Award, 2022. Simon's pamphlet Wild Orchids is available to purchase from Press Books and Coffee.

Cherry Doyle was born in Shrewsbury and now lives on Cannock Chase AONB in Staffordshire. Cherry holds a BA in Creative Writing from the Open University and an MFA in Poetry from the Manchester Writing School (part of Manchester Metropolitan University). She is a member of Border Poets and came second in the 2022 Pre-Raphaelite Society poetry competition.

In 2020-2021, Cherry ran the Arts Council England-funded In The Sticks online poetry project with Simon Fletcher, resulting in an anthology of poetry about the West Midlands countryside. Cherry’s pamphlet September and collection The Taste of Rain, both inspired by the landscapes of Cannock Chase, are available from Press Books And Coffee.

Tom Allsopp is from Hednesford, Staffordshire. He has taught English, Drama, Film and Media Studies in Staffordshire for sixteen years. A lifelong performer, Tom performed stand-up comedy for a number of years before deciding to concentrate on poetry and still enjoys incorporating humour into his work.

Beginning in his teens, Tom always wrote poetry for his own amusement but didn’t share his work with others. Some soul searching during the pandemic led him to share some of his poetry on YouTube and send work to publishers.

He has been published in an anthology by Harper Collins to raise money for key workers during the pandemic and has two pieces included in In The Sticks, from Offa’s Press. Tom was one of seven poets featured in the anthology New Voices, available from Press Books and Coffee.

All pamphlets and anthologies featured at the event will be available at a discounted price on the night!
